Cherry Creek

Denver, Colorado

This new house was designed for a couple of Virginia natives, who have lived in Colorado for over a decade. Located on a five-eighths acre lot in an established neighborhood in the Cherry Creek section of Denver, our design draws upon the free eclecticism of early twentieth century homes in the nearby Country Club and Cheesman Park neighborhoods. English Arts and Crafts and American elements are combined in a cruciform shaped plan in which most rooms occupy the full width of the house and enjoy views in two or more directions. This plan arrangement further serves to organize the site into a lovely sequence of outdoor rooms that are remarkable given modest size of the lot. Views from indoor rooms to outside garden rooms are connected in turn with views experienced from garden rooms to more distant framed views beyond. Despite the selective visual openness, the gardens and house feel private and intimately scaled.
